⊰ Star Wars Jawa ⊱

A Jawa costume from the Star Wars film series.

After watching the Star Wars movies, my daughter asked to dress up as "the little creature." I assumed she meant an Ewok and was already mentally preparing for fur everywhere and an that the sewing machine will hate me. But two sentences later, when I realized she meant a Jawa, I felt a massive wave of relief.

I got lucky and found the perfect fabric - just the right color and one that frayed nicely at the edges. The internet was a great help with pattern suggestions and tutorial videos. I picked and combined elements from different sources that I liked best. I also got tips from my friend Neta who had made a Jawa costume before.

I made the eyes from the plastic capsules you find in Kinder Surprise eggs. They were the perfect size, and the idea made me laugh (which is also an important factor). The boots stubbornly refused to be wrapped in fabric strips, so I had to insist and sand them down for the glue to hold. Under the robe, there's a black outfit. Together with the hood and glowing eyes, it's pure nightmare fuel.
The bandolier (pocket belt) deserve a page of its own.

Neta is part of Israel Outpost - 501st Legion, Bad Guys Doing Good. It's an amazing group of people with Star Wars character costumes at the highest level (officially approved by Disney). They volunteer to bring joy to hospitals, animal shelters, and more.

We joined them for a photoshoot in Caesarea and got some incredible pictures with Darth Vader (Alex Xvost) and his fellow Imperials.
