⊰ Pirate Hook and Coat ⊱
I made those hook and coat for a character in a music festival, and it makes me happy they’re now also being used in LARPs, fitting perfectly with a pirate theme, obviously.
The requirements were that it be exaggeratedly large and styled as a tribute to Maui’s hook from Moana.
After some planning I found a balance between making it huge and still comfortable to use, my minimum standard was that it should at least be capable of catching someone by the neck.
In addition to the hook itself, I also designed the extension piece that provides support and covers his non-amputated hand.
A long (women’s) coat was purchased. At first, I sent it to a seamstress to attach the straps, but we quickly realized that just explaining what I wanted would be a challenge, so I decided to take that part on myself as well.
The coat’s sleeves were removed to turn it into a vest. I sewed a variety of gold and blue straps, matching them to the garment’s edges and highlighting its motifs. In the middle, I added an elegant closure with buttons and even a real pocket where there used to be a “fake” one.
